Every day as many as 33 (four per 1,000) children are born with a significant hearing loss. For children, hearing loss can interfere with the development of speech, language, and social skills, and it can hinder cognitive and academic development. Research has shown that the earlier hearing loss is detected and treatment is administered, the less likely a child will experience debilitating effects on their development.
