Duke AHEC Program Launches Polyglot Med Spanish iPhone App

The Duke Area Health Education Center has launched a new tool to
bridge the communication gap between health care providers and Spanish-speaking
patients.  Polyglot Med Spanish, now available on iTunes for free
download, is a simple-to-use app that offers immediate audio translation of
more than 3,000 common words, phrases and assessment questions from English to
Spanish and Spanish to English.

Nominations Needed for a Study by the National Center for Medical Home Implementation

The
National Center for Medical Home Implementation (NCMHI) and the American
Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) are currently soliciting nominations for best
practices in family-centered care by primary care pediatric practices for

USDA Announces Funding Opportunities Through "Distance Learning and Telemedicine Program Awards"

The
United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced its Distance
Learning and Telemedicine Program (DLT) awards.  The purpose of this grant
is to support the implementation of technological resources, training and
infrastructure for the promotion of telemedicine, especially in rural areas. 

 Eligibility:

Entities providing education and medical care via
telecommunications including corporations or partnerships, Indian tribes or
tribal organizations, state or local units of government, consortia, and
private for-profit or not-for profit corporations. Individuals are not eligible.

Applications are being accepted through April 25th,
2011.

The Cultural and Linguistic Competence Assessment for Disability Organizations (CLCADO)

The
National Center for Cultural Competence is pleased to announce its newest
self-assessment instrument and guide.

While there are many tools and instruments to assess organizational cultural
and linguistic competence, few have been developed to address the cross-section
of organizations concerned with disability. The Cultural and Linguistic
Competence Assessment for Disability Organizations (CLCADO) was developed
specifically for this purpose.
