Sustained progress reported in early hearing loss screening, intervention programs
Between 2006 and 2012, increases were reported in screening, diagnosis, and early intervention rates for hearing loss in U.S. infants, according to the CDC.
Researchers additionally observed a decrease in the number of infants lost to follow-up and lost to documentation.

Deaf girl’s performance in speech contest was impressive, but not as impressive as she is
Adopted from China at age 4, she’s a Whitley County high school honor student who works at a Fort Wayne restaurant, has ambitious dreams and just placed second in a statewide speech contest.
She’s also been deaf since birth — and communicated with the judges mostly through American sign language and the sheer force of her personality and the determination to prove that the lack of hearing does not indicate a lack of ability, intellect or even happiness.
